The Village of Llanfachraeth, named after St Machraeth (a sixth century saint), lies in the north west of the Isle of Anglesey and is one of several rural villages along the route of the A5025, 15 minutes away from the Port of Holyhead and 99 minutes away from Ireland.
It has a history which includes the legendary story of Branwen, a medieval Welsh princess, the alleged site of whose grave lies next to the river Alaw in the neighbouring village of Llantrisant. The river Alaw flows from the Llyn Alaw reservoir (where day licences to partake in coarse and game fishing can be purchased), through Llanfachraeth to the nearby sea and is well known for its salmon.
